Garrett Sparrow, AKA "Francis" is an up-and-coming multi-instrumentalist coming to us from Charlotte, NC. He has been elevating avid listeners with a sunny, indie-rock with serious appeal, and he has produced all of it from his own bedroom. Garrett's two new songs are no different, with SAFE and TRACKSTAR both having a broad, infectious and dazed affect that makes it feel like no matter when you listen to it, its always in the middle of the summer.
SAFE is a collaborative track with Frank Sativa, lovelorn artist currently dominating alternative R&B in silence. SAFE feels like a daydream, a gentle guitar riff and speedy drumbeat lay the foundation for a looping refrain of "Safe now", subliminally relieving the listener, while lyrics of finding comfort with a lover cap off this memorable record. SAFE has a long list of collaborators that could be added to a remix once this song inevitably blows up, Jaden, Rex Orange County, Dominic Fike, Choker, just to name a few. A definite must add for your summer & beach playlists.
TRACKSTAR includes features from Max Leonard and Indigo, and though it runs very quickly (no pun intended) at 2:16, it is potent for its length. The guitar in this song feels injected with adrenaline when compared to SAFE, percussion sped up even higher, background vocals become vital to the track's energy and affect, and the catchy "I'mma run it like a Trackstar" hook is more than enough for you to sing at random days after you hear it.
Garrett Sparrow consistently proves himself to be a powerful force in production as well as creating catchy melodies and flows that run through his discography. As we slowly leave March and warmer weather starts to return, TRACKSTAR and SAFE will be running up numbers and you should definitely be hearing them before everyone else does.
